We are proud to be a family run company, the roots of the company established in 1985 with ‘Litetec Ltd’, manufacturers of optics and fibre optics. The company grew and evolved and we spotted a niche in the market for utilising our skills and experience in the lighting industry- namely, producing fibre optic harnesses- for use in the sensory equipment market. This market was an up and coming area, with only a few competitors.
Having always been based in Sunny Southend-on-Sea, Essex, we employed staff up north, and opened a manufacturing base in Doncaster, headed up by staff that know the fibre industry well. We begun to manufacture our own sparkle fibre kits and launched a new website sensorylighting.com as a branch of Litetec. This did well, despite our limited product base. We decided to launch a dedicated company for this branch of Litetec, and so Total Sensory was born.
A new dedicated website was set up in house, with the domain totalsensory.co.uk. This grew over the years, with us offering more and more sensory product selection. The first ‘catalogue’ (abit, only a few pages and designed in house!) was published in 2009, although this looks ‘historic’ now, it served its purpose and our client base grew.
With growth, we decided to outsource our catalogue to proper designers, and we were very excited to see a shiny copy of our new 1st edition catalogue with a few more products that customers asked us for, and our own inventions continued to be popular- the fiesta tube, infinity box, fiesta box, carpet boxes, fibre optic carpet, uv fibres and jellyfish fountains.
Over the coming years, we exhibited at Naidex National and the TES london special needs show, and we are now on our 5th edition catalogue. We grew our staff, both at the headoffice in Essex and the manufacturing base in Doncaster. We are a supporter of young apprentices at both branches and we are now focusing some of our attention to supporting local businesses that produce handmade items for the sensory market.
We pride ourselves on being unique, we don’t employ harsh sales techniques, and we don’t have mechincal switch boards or queues on the phone – you will speak to a human! We strive to be better and support others along the way, to give advice, and to help our local community.
